‚In the Line of Sight‘ besteht aus 100 computergesteuerten Militärtaschenlampen, die niedrig aufgelöste Videobilder von verdächtigen Bewegungsabläufen als Lichtkreise projizieren. Die Licht-/klanginstallationen werden immer für den jeweiligen Ort entwickelt. Das Medium Licht erzeugt dabei ein präzises, flüchtiges Ereignis im Raum. Es geht es um das Verhältnis einzelner Lichtereignisse ‚Individuen‘ zu einem Ganzen oder einem Feld ‚Gruppe‘. Die Installation spielt mit unserer Wahrnehmung von Nachdenklichkeit und Ruhe in einer geistig stimulierenden Umgebung. Kyriakou hat eine Komposition geschaffen, die phantastisch-futuristische Stadtlandschaften andeutet. Die eigens für die Installation kreierte Musik erinnert an frühe byzantinischen Klänge und ist für Gitarre, Keyboard und Marimba instrumentiert.

Aus der Dunkelheit heraus gleißendes Licht, ein grell-weißer Fleck, ein kaltes Aufleuchten. Helle Insel in der Schwärze. Ein Aufenthalt im direkten Lichtfeld ist nahezu unmöglich. Weißes Strahlen. Zerstrahlen. Verschlossene Augen. Hitze. Weißes Rauschen. Lichtzwang – Lichtflutung – Raumflutung. Wieviel Licht läßt sich in einen Kubikmeter Raum zwängen?

The installation focuses on our perception providing a reflective tranquility in a spiritually insightful ambience, it provides particular experience of light and sound which both emerge in the phenomenal and uncontaminated substance, subsequently and in its second layer of appearance, the installation emerges as a well designed composition suggesting an imaginative futuristic urban landscape. The music composition created for the installation has a feeling of early Byzantine music from the hypnotic drone and modes. The instrumentation is for guitar, keyboard and marimba.

A metaphor for a light installation. Frankfurt/M.: streets, rows of houses in the dark. Floors of buildings. Rows of storeys.
Light blazing out of the dark, a glaring white spot, a cold flare. Pools of light in the blackness. It is almost impossible to stand in the direct field of light. White shining. Outshining. Closed eyes. Heat. White noise. Light compulsion – light flooding – space flooding. How much light can be constrained in one square metre?
