  • Lighting Blob for the World of BMW

    bmw-welt.jpgSchon lange ist die zukunftsweisende Architektur der BMW Welt von außen deutlich zu erkennen. Am 20. und 21. Oktober 2007 findet die offizielle Eröffnung statt. Ab dem darauf folgenden Montag ist die BMW Welt für jedermann zugänglich. Die Architektur stammt vom Wiener Büro COOP HIMMELB(L)AU. Die Wiener planen in Frankfurt den Neubau der Europäischen Zentralbank. Für das kommende Jahr ist die Wiedereröffnung des BMW-Museum in der legendären Schüssel geplant. Das Atelier Brückner (Stuttgart) und Art + Com (Berlin) arbeiten an einem Konzept der interaktiven Ausstellungsarchitektur mit LED-Installationen und Medienfassaden.

    For a long time the trendsetting architecture of the BMW World is clear to recognize from the outside. On the 20th and 21st October the official opening takes place. From the next monday the BMW World is accessible to each. The architecture comes from Viennese office COOP HIMMELB (L)AU. The Viennese are planning the new building of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt. For the next year the reopening of the BMW museum in Munich is planned in the legendary bowl.   • Zumtobel Group Award for Sustainability

    2zumtobel-award.jpgDie Ausstellung Zumtobel Group Award for Sustainability and Humanity in the Built Environment wird vom 9.11. bis 29.11. im Zumtobel Lichtforum Dornbirn gezeigt. Im Rahmen ihres Umweltengagements hat die Zumtobel Gruppe zum ersten Mal einen hochdotierten, internationalen Architekturpreis für Nachhaltigkeit und Menschlichkeit in der gebauten Umwelt vergeben. Bereits Mitte September hatten Morphosis Architects und das Büro Schlaich Bergermann den neu geschaffenen und hochdotierten internationalen Zumtobel Group Award entgegengenommen.

    The exhibit Zumtobel Group Award for Sustainability and Humanity in the Built Environment is shown from 9.11 to 29.11 in the Zumtobel Lightforum Dornbirn. In connection with her environmental engagement the Zumtobel Group has awarded for the first time a highly dotated, international architecture price for sustainability and humanity in the built environment. Already at the middle of September Morphosis Architects and office Schlaich Bergermann had get the first international Zumtobel Group Award.

  • Master of Light: Peter Zumthor

    zumthor.pngPeter Zumthor ist ein Meister im Umgang mit Licht und Architektur. Zur Zeit läuft im Kunsthaus Bregenz (Architekt: Peter Zumthor) eine große Retrospektive seines Werkes. Im Sommer wurde Kolumba, das Kunstmuseum des Erzbistum Köln, als jüngstes Werk von Zumthor eröffnet.Das Kunsthaus Bregenz ist ein Leuchturm der Lichtkunst. Zumtobel gehört zu den Sponsoren des Hauses. Einige Luminale-Teilnehmer wie Siegrun Appelt haben dort in den letzten Jahren ausgestellt.

    Peter Zumthor is a master in lighting and architecture. At the moment runs in the Kunsthaus Bregenz (architect: Peter Zumthor) a big retrospective of his work. In summer the Kolumba, the art museum of the archbishopric of Cologne, as the youngest work of Zumthor was opened. The Kunsthaus Bregenz is a Light house of the light art. Zumtobel belongs to the sponsors of the house. Some Luminale participants like Siegrun Appelt have exhibited there during the last years.

  • New York: Provoking Magic: Lighting of Ingo Maurer

    MaurerDiese Retrospektive des weltberühmten Licht-Designers Ingo Maurer wird eine umfassende Übersicht seiner fast vier Jahrzehnte währenden Arbeiten zeigen. Maurer selbst hat an der Auswahl der Exponate mitgewirkt. Seltene Prototypen, serienmäßig hergestellte Lampen sowie Modelle, Fotografien und Filme werden gezeigt, die seine Beleuchtungsprojekte rund um die Welt dokumentieren. Höhepunkt der Ausstellung werden die von Maurer eigens für die Cooper-Hewitt Galerien entworfenen Licht-Installationen sein. www.cooperhewitt.org

    This retrospective of the celebrated lighting designer Ingo Maurer will offer a comprehensive overview of his nearly four decades of work. Maurer himself will help select works for display, including rare prototypes, serially produced lamps and one-off pieces, as well as models, photographs and films documenting his illumination projects around the world.     Dieser erste umfassende Überblick über Projekte von Olafur Eliasson in den Vereinigten Staaten versammelt im San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Arbeiten aus öffentlichen und privaten Sammlungen weltweit und vermittelt einen Überblick über Eliassons weit gefächerte künstlerische Produktion von 1993 bis in die Gegenwart: von Installationen, groß angelegten Environments, Skulpturen bis hin zur Fotografie. Die Ausstellung „Take your time: Olafur Eliasson“ wird im Anschluss an das San Francisco Debüt auf eine internationale Tournee gehen und wird von einen umfassenden Katalog begleitet.

    Im Rahmen der Luminale zeigte Olafur Eliasson 2004 seine Farbpanorama-Installation „360° room for all colours“ in der Frankfurter Kunsthalle Schirn mit Unterstützung von Zumtobel. Seit der Luminale 06 ist Olafur Eliasson Light Lab weithin sichtbar vom Portikus aus im Frankfurter Stadtbild präsent.     Within the Luminale 2004 Eliasson performed his color panorama-installation „360 ° room for all colours“ in Frankfurter Kunsthalle Schirn with support of Zumtobel. Das Licht passt sich der Kleidung desjenigen an, der auf den Stühlen Platz nimmt. Wer sprechen über die Luminale. Moritz Waldemeyer hat Lust auf eine Teilnahme. Augenblicklich ist er sehr beschäftigt. Mit dem Modemacher Hussein Chalayan bereitet er die nächste Fashion Show für Paris vor. Für Chalayan hat er

    Kleider aus bewegten Bildern programmiert. Moritz Waldemeyer ist ein Meister des Electric-Pop. Auch bei so mancher Chrystal Palace-Installation von Swarovski hat er seine Hände im Spiel. Zwischen den Aufträgen arbeitet er an seinen eigenen Kunst- und Design-Projekten.

With the fashion designer Hussein Chalayan he prepares the next Fashion show for Paris. For Chalayan he has programmed clothes from moved pictures. Moritz Waldemeyer is a hidden champion of the Electric pop. Also with quite a lot of Chrystal Palace-Installation of Swarovski he has his hands in the play. Between the orders he works on his own art and design projects.

  • Der Kölner KirchenfensterstreitCologne: Quarrels around the window of Gerhard Richter

    With a ceremony the window in the Cologne Cathedral sketched by Gerhard Richter was initiated. Richter gave the draft to the cathedral chapter. The original glass painting had been destroyed in the second world war and had been substituted later with an interim solution by which, nevertheless, the sunlight penetrated too brightly into the inside of the cathedral. Now only Gerhard Richter’s window picture creates that ideal light situation again the architects of the Middle Ages had in mind. However, Cardinal Meisner spoke of a degeneration of art and released a violent controversy. Further informationrichter.pngMit einer feierlichen Messe wurde im Kölner Dom das von Gerhard Richter entworfene Fenster am südlichen Querhaus eingeweiht. Der Kölner Ehrenbürger schenkte dem Domkapitel den Entwurf. Die ursprüngliche Glasmalerei war im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört und später durch ein Provisorium ersetzt worden, durch das jedoch das Sonnenlicht viel zu hell in das Innere der Kathedrale eindrang. Erst Gerhard Richters Fensterbild schafft jetzt wieder jene ideale Lichtsituation, wie sie den Baumeistern des Mittelalters vorschwebte. Der Kölner Kardinal Meisner hingegen sprach von einer Entartung der Kunst und löste eine heftige Kontroverse aus. Weitere Informationen

    sanaa.pngRené Liebert, Matthias Mohr and Tobias Rosenberger, Luminale 06-exhibitors (Intitute of Applied Theatre Studies, Giessen) and students of Prof. Heiner Goebbels got an invitation of the embassies of France and Germany in Jemen and realised under the patronage of the minister of culture of Yemen and the mayor of the town Sana`a this project: Approaching the Old City of Sanaa, the festively lit Bab-al-Yemen reveals to the visitor the beauty of Sana´a and Yemen. Looking through the gate, right in its vanishing point, the visitor discovers a cube that stands for the city`s traditional architectural shape and interacts with its environment. The visitor is invited to take part in the spiritual life of Yemen during Ramadan, and to immerse into the atmosphere of the Old City during that special time of year. Here, in the interior Bab-al-Yemen square everyone is invited to go on a discovery: Discreet video projections on the interior walls of the Bab-al-Yemen work with the wall`s structure and open virtual windows. Sounds and traditional Yemeni music can be experienced in many different locations in the square via loudspeakers, and result in a composition that organically inserts itself in the play of the interior with the exterior.     Trash Luxe, wie der Name schon sagt, ist eine Ausstellung von Gegenständen, die Designer im Abfall gefunden haben und aus denen sie wieder etwas Neues geschaffen haben, das die ästhetischen Reize sichtbar macht. Unter den Designern: Paul Cocksedge, Stuart Haygarth, Maarten Baas, Sarah van Gameren und Ryen Mcelhinney. Die Ausstellung ist auch eine Antwort auf die Verbraucherschutzbewegung und die heute übliche Einwegkultur.

    Trash Luxe, as the name suggests, is an exhibition of waste objects that have been given a makeover by a selection of designers seeking to highlight the items‘ aesthetic beauty. Among the designers: Paul Cocksedge, Stuart Haygarth, Maarten Baas, Sarah van Gameren and Ryen Mcelhinney. The exhibition is also a response to consumerism and todays disposable culture.
