    Die Licht-/klanginstallationen werden immer für den jeweiligen Ort entwickelt. Das Medium Licht erzeugt dabei ein präzises, flüchtiges Ereignis im Raum. Es geht es um das Verhältnis einzelner Lichtereignisse ‚Individuen‘ zu einem Ganzen oder einem Feld ‚Gruppe‘.     Mary-Anne Kyriakou: Flight to Light
    Die Installation spielt mit unserer Wahrnehmung von Nachdenklichkeit und Ruhe in einer geistig stimulierenden Umgebung. Kyriakou hat eine Komposition geschaffen, die phantastisch-futuristische Stadtlandschaften andeutet. Die eigens für die Installation kreierte Musik erinnert an frühe byzantinischen Klänge und ist für Gitarre, Keyboard und Marimba instrumentiert.

    Aus der Dunkelheit heraus gleißendes Licht, ein grell-weißer Fleck, ein kaltes Aufleuchten. Helle Insel in der Schwärze. Ein Aufenthalt im direkten Lichtfeld ist nahezu unmöglich. This installation explores the relationship of single light events ‘individuals’ to the whole or a field ‘group’.     The installation focuses on our perception providing a reflective tranquility in a spiritually insightful ambience, it provides particular experience of light and sound which both emerge in the phenomenal and uncontaminated substance, subsequently and in its second layer of appearance, the installation emerges as a well designed composition suggesting an imaginative futuristic urban landscape. The music composition created for the installation has a feeling of early Byzantine music from the hypnotic drone and modes. The instrumentation is for guitar, keyboard and marimba.

    Light blazing out of the dark, a glaring white spot, a cold flare. Pools of light in the blackness. It is almost impossible to stand in the direct field of light. White shining. Outshining. Closed eyes. Heat. White noise. Light compulsion – light flooding – space flooding. How much light can be constrained in one square metre?

    Die ‘gallery without images‘ wurde als Lichtinstallation für den Außenraum entwickelt. Die Lichtrahmen in der nächtlichen Landschaft sind Leerstellen, Durchblicke oder Platzhalter für die Assoziationen der Betrachter und ermöglichen den sie umgebenden Raum neu zu erfahren. Die Lichtrahmen werden zum Ausdruck von ‘idealen Formen‘, wie sie der Mensch zu schaffen versucht. Der konstruktive und rationale Geist, in Form von Geometrie und künstlichem Licht, steht in einem auch symbolisch zu verstehenden Spannungsverhältnis zur organischen Natur. The ‘gallery without images‘ was developed as an outdoor light installation. The light frames in the nocturnal landscape are space bars, insights or empty spaces for the viewers‘ associations and enable us to re-experience the space around us. The light frames are expressions of the ideal forms man tries to create. The constructive and rational mind, represented by geometry and artificial light, in a symbolically conflicting relationship to organic nature.

    Die temporäre Lichtinstallation ‘Hustle & Bustle‘ versucht die Dynamik des Gebäudes als ein mechanisches Treiben zu visualisieren und rückt gleichzeitig dynamisches Licht selbst in den Mittelpunkt. Das Gebäude als laufendes Getriebe versinnbildlicht sowohl die immanenten Abläufe im Geschäftsbetrieb einer Firma, als auch den gebautem Raum als übergeordnetes strukturelles Element. Eine Installation zum Ineinander von Architektur, Maschine und menschlichem Leben.The temporary light installation ‘Hustle & Bustle‘ attempts to visualise the dynamics of the building as a mechanical process and simultaneously focuses on dynamic light. The building as a running process symbolises both the immanent steps in the procedures of a business and the constructed space as a super-ordinated structural element. An installation about the intertwining of architecture, machines and human life.

    doitsmartDie Website: www.doitsmart.de/luminale bietet die Möglichkeit, selbst zum Lichtgestalter zu werden. Möglich wird dies durch ein frei zugängliches Webinterface. Die Fassade der Taunusanlage 20 sowie die einzelnen Fenster des historischen Gebäudes können einzeln koloriert und zu einer Gesamtkomposition kombiniert werden. Jede erstellte Komposition beleuchtet die Fassade für ca. eine Minute. An den sechs Abenden der Luminale ist das Gebäude jeweils 5 Stunden im Scheinwerferlicht. Somit ergeben sich 1800 mögliche Lichtgestaltungen. Kameras dokumentieren das Geschehen und geben dem Gestalter einen tatsächlichen Eindruck der vorher virtuell bearbeiteten Flächen.

    doitsmartThe website: www.doitsmart.de/luminale gives us the opportunity of becoming a light designer. This is made possible by a freely available web interface. The façade of Taunusanlage 20 as well as the individual windows of this historic building can be coloured and combined to make an overall composition. Each composition created will illuminate the façade for about one minute. On each of the six Luminale evenings the building will be illuminated for five hours. This makes 1800 possible light designs. Cameras will document the process and give the creators an actual impression of the virtually designed surfaces.

    Die Installation schneidet scheinbar willkürlich einen Bereich mit Licht aus dem urbanen Kontext. Wesentlich hierbei ist die Wahl des Ortes, da die Situation in der Friedberger Anlage wie ein exemplarischer Querschnitt durch stadträumliche Situationen gesehen werden kann.
    Vom Bethmann-Weiher über die Parksituation hin zu weiteren horizontalen Ebenen mit unterschiedlichem Charakter sowie der Wegebeleuchtung markiert die Lichtinstallation einen „Ausschnitt“ stadträumlicher Substanz und belebt diese Inszenierung, die sich an einer äußerst markanten Stelle in Frankfurt befindet, durch Inhalte die sich mit der Geschichte der Stadt und ihren historischen, räumlichen, ökonomischen, politischen und kulturellen Einschnitten, sprich bedeutsamen Ereignissen oder Terminen, in der Entwicklung Frankfurts auseinandersetzen.This installation uses light to cut a seemingliy random area out of the urban context. The choice of venue is fundamental, since the situation on the Friedberger Anlage can be seen as an exemplary section of urban situations.

    From the Bethmann pond including the parking spaces and further horizontal levels of different character to the walkway lighting, this installation shows a cut-out of urban substance. This production, which is situated in an extremely salient spot in Frankfurt, is enlivened by contents which expose the history of the town and its historic, spacial, economic, political and cultural aspects, i.e. significant events and dates in the development of Frankfurt.

Das Liebieghaus bietet einen Überblick über 5000 Jahre Geschichte der Bildhauerei – vom alten Ägypten bis zum Klassizismus.

    Experience the multi-facetted effect of light in the museum. Since the re-presentation of the Liebieghaus sculpture the exhibits unfold their full spacial effects thanks to an innovative lighting concept. The sculptures are accentuated by hundreds of newly-installed spotlights. The Liebieghaus offers an overview of 5000 years of history in sculpture – from ancient Egypt to Classicism.

  • Liebe Lili,Dear Lili,

    1775 lernten sich der 26jährige Johann Wolfgang von Goethe und die 17jährige Anna Elisabeth „Lili“ Schönemann im heutigen Lili-Park kennen. Einem durchliebten Frühling folgen Verlobung und Trennung. Geblieben sind nur Johanns Erinnerungen. Mit der Installation am Offenbacher Lilli-Tempel verbinden Fabian Thiele und Markus Bernatzky Typografie und Licht zu einer poetischen Installation und machen die Erinnerungen sichtbar.
    In 1775 the 26 year-old Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the 17 year-old Anna Elisabeth “Lili” Schönemann met in what is now called the Lili-Park. A loving springtime was followed by engagement and separation. All that was left are Johanns memories. With this installation at the Lilli-Temple in Offenbach Fabian Thiele and Markus Bernatzky combine typography and light to a poetic installation and make these memories visible.

    Einladung zum interaktiven Spaziergang, Intervention im Stadtraum. Rund um den Eschenheimer Turm werden Situationen gefunden und Details ins Licht gesetzt. In schneller Bewegung mit den RGB-Leuchtkuben entwerfen die Performerinnen Claire Terrien und Jana Heilmann ihren eigenen Raum. In den Wallanlagen und Straßen rund um den Eschenheimer Turm, Treffpunkt: Eschenheimer Tor beim westlichen Parkeingang Richtung Nebbiensches Gartenhaus.Invitation to an interactive walk, intervention in the city. All around the Eschenheimer Turm situations will be pinpointed and details highlighted. With fast movements and RGB shining cubes the performers Claire Terrien and Jana Heilmann will create their own space. In the Wallanlagen park and the streets around the Eschenheimer Turm. Meeting point: Eschenheimer Tor West Entrance to the park heading for Nebbisches Gartenhaus.

    ELECTRALuminaleELECTRA bezieht sich die auf gleichnamige mythologische Figur, auf elektronische Musik und auf die Oper. Für diese musikalisch-visuelle Komposition hat Geneviève Favre Petroff verschiedene Schmuckstücke (Ring, Armband, Halskette, Krone) entwickelt und ein langes pyramidenförmiges Satinkleid mit hundert LEDs verziert, die auf ihre gesprochenen Worte und ihre Aktionen reagieren. Die Künstlerin steht mitten auf der Bühne, sie agiert als automatisierte Diva, bewegt die Arme und wendet ihr Gesicht gen Himmel. Dabei singt sie über ihr Leben, ihre Ängste und Hoffnungen, während ihr leuchtendes Kostüm dies sichtbar zum Ausdruck bringt.ELECTRALuminale
    ELECTRA refers to the mythological figure of the same name, to electronic music and to opera. For this musical and visual composition, Geneviève Favre Petroff created different jewels (ring, bracelet, necklace, crown) and a long pyramidal satin dress decorated with hundred LED lights, which can react alternately to her words and actions. The artist stands in the middle of the stage, she acts as an automated diva, moving her arms, turning her face to the sky. She sings about her life, her fears and her hopes while her luminous costume expresses itself.

  • Architectural Lighting Design CompetitionArchitectural Lighting Design Competition

    Im Vorfeld der Luminale wurde von Philips Lighting und der Professional Lighting Designers’ Association, PLDA ein Wettbewerb für junge Lichtdesigner ausgeschrieben. Aufgabe war, für die Jugendkulturkirche sankt peter, Stephanstr. 6, 60313 Frankfurt am Main, ein Lichtkonzept für den Außenraum zu entwickeln. Die Architektur des Kirchengebäudes, der anfallende Energieverbrauch und die Realisierbarkeit des Projektes in 24 Stunden sollten bei der Lichtlösung berücksichtigt werden.
    Eine Jury aus international etablierten Lichtdesignern und Fachleuten hat aus den Einreichungen des offenen Wettbewerbs die besten Lösungen ausgewählt; das Konzept des Hauptgewinners wird zur Light + Building realisiert und ist von Sonntag, 11. bis Freitag 16. April 2010 installiert. Die besten Lösungen werden am Dienstag, 13. April, 2010 auf der ‚Celebration of Light‘ ausgestellt.
